John Stevenson (b. 1959) studied painting at Maidstone College of Art in the late seventies and after a brief spell lecturing in fine art between 1981 / 83 formed a collective art group ( 'Contemporary Art Now' )
In 1985 he was awarded the Royal Netherlands Scholarship, and attended the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam from 1985 to 1988 where he studied sculpture at post graduate level. Exhibitions include Fodor Museum and Liesbeth Lips Gallery Amsterdam, Stelling Gallery, Lieden and Koln.
In England during the nineties he worked as a graphic designer but became increasingly involved with interiors and architecture.
While remaining active in the interior and decoration professions, in 1999 he commissioned award winning architect Michael Winter to design and build an eco house for his family in Suffolk and it was this ongoing concern with architecture, space and interiors which led to a return to study.
From 2003 / 04 Stevenson studied for a Masters Degree in Interior Design at Brighton University and used his experience as sculptor / designer to fuse a dialogue between fine art and interior issues. His graduation project, 'neutral space' explored parallels with proportion, geometry and light.
John Stevenson continues now to develop his own art and gallery related projects. |
