Making photographs through a pinhole requires a different engagement with time and light and I am happier working in this slower world, where moving things can vanish or appear as a trace in the deeper space of the pinhole photograph. The scene becomes depicted through a sustained gaze, at odds with the millisecond snapshot, rather more in tune with the original explanation of photography, which is literally 'to write with light'. Many images arise through serendipity and call the veracity of the photographic document into question. Whether landscapes, still lives or portraits, the work resides ambiguously between the experience of painting and photography and invites the viewer to slow down and move towards a state of poetic reverie and contemplation.
